It’s great that The News Tribune highlighted important legislation needed to update Washington state’s distracted-driving laws.
Two important points were not made in the article.
• This bill will save lives. One in 10 people are using cell phones while driving on Washington state roads, and it is dangerous. Talking on your phone while driving increases your crash risk by four times. Texting while driving increases crash risk 23-fold and is equivalent to driving drunk with a blood alcohol level of 0.19.
